I love that we set aside a day each year to declare all that we are thankful for. Gratefulness is really important.
1 Chronicles 16:34 “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good. His love endures forever.”
I’ve learned to be thankful for the little things in the course of my 24 years. I’m not perfect, and I probably complain more than I talk about being thankful, but progress…right?
Reading this verse challenged me today. It says, “Give thanks to the Lord, for (because) He is good.” It doesn’t say, “Give thanks to the Lord, because you have lots of blessings.”
I think it’s great to be thankful for the blessings in our lives, but I’ve found that I get so stuck on giving thanks because I have things to be thankful for that I forget I am called to give thanks in all circumstance – that means even if I don’t feel like things are working out for me.
I want to shift my focus. I will continue to be grateful for the blessings in my life, but I want to come into a place where I simply give thanks to the Lord for who He is. Because He is enough, and because He deserves my praise and thanks.
I want to continue to be thankful beyond today, beyond this month, and all year. And I think if I remember why I am giving thanks instead of for what I am giving thanks, it will be a lot easier to give thanks always.
