My Kind of Party

Yesterday was my birthday, and because we had plans for the weekend, I expected to spend the evening watching Downton Abbey and eating Famous Dave’s. And that is what we did for a couple hours, then a car pulled in the driveway. I was so confused because my husband had been very clear about our plans for the evening, and that was that we had no plans. But I opened the door and in walked our best friends and their daughters!!!

Normally if my husband wants to surprise me, he’ll tell me he has a surprise for me, but won’t tell me when I will know what it is. He will just hold the surprise over my head for sometimes months, so I did NOT expect this!

Over the course of the next 30 minutes, 6 more of our best friends came over! One had made and decorated 2 cakes for me from scratch! They sang to me, and we ate cake and played Just Dance.

My two pregnant friends were so hilarious and adorable dancing together.

It was my best birthday ever! I haven’t felt so loved in a long time. I have thee best husband on earth, and the best family!

Today we went on a little getaway. We went skiing/snowboarding at one of the few places in Iowa. It was pretty warm today, so the snow was slushy and it was hard to maneuver, but we got by. It was so fun! The worst part – and the part I wish had been caught on camera – was when I hit a rut from someone’s ski while I was slowing down on my board and face planted. It wasn’t just a normal face plant either. I had enough speed that it was the kind of face plant cartoons are modeled after. My torso hit the ground and my feet flew up in the air, and I slid a few feet. My body is definitely not supposed to bend like that.

Then I ran into a guy who was skiing. I tried to dodge him, and he tried to dodge me, but we knew collision was inevitable, so we grabbed onto each other and fell to the ground. No one was hurt, and we both had a good laugh.

The best part of the day was that I got to spend it with my love.
