About a month ago, I went back to my hometown to visit the family. The city celebration was going on, so we went to the parade on Saturday morning.
I don’t know why, but I decided I would be as energetic as possible, waving at people walking in the parade and clapping for well-made floats. It seemed like the people in the parade enjoyed it more than usual because there was actual human interaction, and it almost always resulted in candy being thrown my way.
I’d never realized that people would be more likely to throw candy at me if I made them smile, even though it just seems like common sense.
After a little while, I decided to tweak my method. I decided I would Continue reading “Parade Candy Motherlode”
Holy smokes. Last weekend was so full!
My husband and I ran some errands Friday night to get ready for the rest of the weekend. It was our town’s annual celebration. The park near our house is where all of the festivities happen, so we don’t usually get much sleep since the beer garden and live music close down around 1am.
It poured Friday night, though, so we didn’t have to be up too late. Saturday morning was the co-ed softball tournament followed by the parade. I’ve figured out the best way to get the most candy at parades. It’s crazy how well it works.
I didn’t play softball in high school, but Continue reading “Weekend Adventures”
We have been really busy most evenings for a few weeks, and it has been making it difficult to write, but I’m back at it.
My husband’s birthday was last week.
We didn’t do much the day of, but we took a little weekend trip to Des Moines a few days later. We visited the zoo, saw the new Star Trek, and, most importantly, hit up the Cheesecake Factory!
We stayed with some friends and got to catch up with them and play with their kids. It was a really good weekend.
Today my husband and I celebrated our 4th anniversary!
It’s hard to believe it’s been 4 years. So much has happened!
We both agree that year 4 was a year of immense growth in our marriage, and it’s exciting to know that we aren’t done growing together.
Since we are trying to pay off student loans we didn’t buy each other gifts. We went out to eat with a gift card we received and hit up a $5 movie 🙂
And we matched the whole time! I love matching, but my husband hates it. He was about to change when I said, “if you match that would be a great anniversary gift!”
He loves me 🙂
Happy Father’s Day, Love.
You are an amazing dad, and honestly, you should have celebrated this day long before our son was born.
You were a father when we were doing youth ministry. You loved the kids we worked with. You taught them, laughed with them, cried with them. You introduced them to their Father in heaven, and spoke truth into their lives. You dealt with drama and welcomed kids with open arms when others would have run away because hormonal teens can be comparable to bears coming out of hibernation.
You modeled Continue reading “Happy Father’s Day, Love”
