I’m learning how to pray through the Psalms. The idea is to read through one verse or sentence at a time, and pray about whatever comes to mind from reading that section. Tonight was the first time I had tried it, and it was really good. I felt like my prayer was deeper and more intimate than it usually is.

“He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.” -Psalm 40:2
The image given by this verse is basically the story of my life. God is so good! He never lets me sink down, He always rescues me, He never fails.
I love it when the Lord gives me super simple revelation in the most unexpected ways. I was reading in Psalm tonight, and when I got to this verse – the last one in chapter 19 – I thought, “Okay, Lord, I am just going to lay here and meditate on what I read and what you want to tell me.”
So I laid my head down on my dog and listened for the Lord. What I heard, though, was her heartbeat.

I’ve had a bit of writer’s block lately, and I think I know why. There are many days that I struggle to set aside time for the Lord – to just sit and listen or be in the Word – and lately that’s where I’ve been.
I’ve tried to sit down and write something every day, but nothing is coming, and, while I want to share my life and story here, I don’t want it to be about me. I want it to be about what God is doing and showing me and how He wants to use my story to bless or encourage other people.
