I’ve been thinking about how Jesus prayed lately, and I think I’ve been doing it wrong for a while now.
There are a lot of times the Bible talks about Jesus going off to be alone while He prayed (Mark 1:35, Matthew 14:23, Luke 5:16, Luke 6:12). It seems to simple, but technology has sort of complicated things. Continue reading “The Lonely Place”
I owe it to my little sister for rekindling my love for reading. She introduced me to a series that I’ve been zooming through. I recently started the last book, and saw a shiny seal on the cover that said “Author of The City of Ember – A major motion picture Fall 2008,” and thought, “What?! How did I not hear of this movie when it came out?! The books are really well done, so I thought surely the movie would at least be a little good.”
There was nothing good about that movie. Not. One. Thing.
When a book is Continue reading “I’m Becoming One of Those People”
I enjoyed reading as a kid, then somewhere around junior high or high school that enjoyment went away. Maybe it was being forced to read certain books for school, or maybe it was something I did. I don’t really know. As an adult I’ve discovered that I do still like reading, but getting a book in my hand is the hard part. If I can find a good book, I’ll read and read, but taking time to find a good book is something I don’t really like doing.
My younger sister and I started reading a series of books that she really likes. I’d never read them before, so she read to me while I did dishes or made supper. We finished book number one, and she got the second and third books from the library. I started the second book a couple days ago and finished today.
As I was reading yesterday, I thought, “It would be great if the Bible was Continue reading “Here We Are Now. Entertain Us.”
Today the temperature went above 80 degrees!! In Iowa, though, you can’t really count on the weather to stay the same for more than a few days, especially in the spring, so I’m soaking it up.
The weather made me reminiscent of the summer before second grade. The summer itself wasn’t anything too unusual. I had sleepovers, visited my dad, and did other kid things. Every year, my mom would remind me to pick up a book and read every once in a while, so I would be ready when school started in the fall, but I didn’t take her advice that summer.
I remember thinking Continue reading “That Time I Forgot How to Spell…”
I know the gospel, but I love when God reminds me of it in a way that makes it seem like the first time I’ve ever heard it.
I was reading in Isaiah 25 tonight, and the Lord pierced my heart as I read verses 7 & 8.
On this mountain he will destroy the shroud that enfolds all peoples, the sheet that covers all nations; he will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears from all faces; he will remove the disgrace of his people from all the earth.
As I read those words, I was almost brought to tears of joy because of what Jesus did for me.
Shroud is defined as Continue reading “On That Mountain”
It’s been a while, but I’m back at it again! The last couple weeks have been a bit busy, and I thought about blogging almost every day…but then I didn’t. So I am going to get back into the swing of things for the next month.
I spent of a lot of time going through stuff and organizing our basement because sometimes I just can’t handle the clutter anymore. As I was sorting through my pile of fabric I was inspired to make a hoodie for my friend’s baby. I am pretty pleased with how it turned out.
Other than organizing and sewing, the last couple weeks have been fairly uneventful. I’ve been in a bit of a funk. I hadn’t been taking the time Continue reading “Back”
